Don't be like the rest of them darling

"Simplicity is the
keynote of all true elegance." This legendary sentence was pronounced by
the unique Gabrielle Coco Chanel - a woman who dared to change the rules and be
faithful to her style despite criticism and lack of women's rights at that
time. Coco Chanel today inspires not only, many fashion experts, but also women
around the world.
She was born back in 1883 in a small French
town of Saumur. Her
father abandoned the family and left them to the care of the orphanage. In the
orphanage with the help of nuns, she learns how to sew and design. Before she
got interested in fashion she was a cabaret
singer and this is how she got her nickname, Coco. Her design career began by
creating a hats which led to the opening of the first store with her name and
creating a brand that lives after her death.
WHY
DO WE LOVE HER?
From a little black dress that has the same
power today as it had 92 years ago,
to the stripes and tan, Chanel made great changes and created fashion items,
that would, seem to be eternal.
WOMEN'S
COSTUME
Everyone can agree that today a women's
costume is extremely popular. Chanel's idea of costume was stolen from men,
because she wanted to design something that would represent a businesswoman of that era.
INFLUENCE
ON WOMEN
She always fought for women's rights and
gender equality. With
her influence she encouraged women to feel comfortable in their clothes and
released them from wearing uncomfortable clothing such as corsets.
WOMEN'S
PANTS
Chanel lived in a time when women were not
allowed to dress like men, specifically they were not allowed to wear pants,
but she decided to change that too, so she has facilitated everyday activities
for all women.
JEWELRY
She felt that every outfit
combination had to be completed with jewelery, to perfect the overall
appearance. She
was rarely seen without jewelery, so she decided to make it from pearls and strings.
LITTLE
BLACK DRESS
A little black dress is a unique classic of
every closet. In the 1920s, black was worn only on funeral , but Chanel wanted
to create a dress that would appeal to everyone and that would be wearable for all
occasions. So she designed a little black dress and made it a timeless
fashion star.
STRIPES
Today we wear stripes in all colors and
directions, thanks to Chanel. Watching the fishermen on the city riviera she came
up with the idea that stripes would look great on women, so she created a
simple striped t-shirt, which she later
passed on pants, shoes, etc.
TAN
Everyone are looking forward to summer, so
they could have shiny, Sun colored skin. Tan became popular in the 1920s, at the
time when a pale skin was a sign of elitism and luxury, but Chanel, quite
accidentally, changed that too. She fell asleep on the beach in Cannes, so she
got tanned. When she returned to Paris, everyone wanted to have a ten like hers.
That's the way how tan became trend which lasts for almost a century.
If there wasn't for her, fashion today would
have less sense. In fashion world, she brought in many changes on which we are
endlessly grateful for. Despite her tough childhood, she has succeeded in
achieving her goals and becoming one of the most significant fashion designers
of the twentieth century.

nego i žene diljem svijeta.
Rođena je davne 1883.
godine u malom francuskom gradiću Saumuru. Otac ubrzo napušta obitelj te ih
prepušta na skrb sirotištu. U sirotištu, uz pomoć časnih sestara, uči šivati i
vesti.
toga doba.
smjele odijevati poput muškaraca, točnije nisu smjele nositi hlače, no ona je i
to odlučila promijeniti te time svim ženama olakšala svakodnevne aktivnosti.
NAKIT
PRUGICE
Danas prugice nosimo u svim bojama i smjerovima,
joj beskrajno zahvalni. Usprkos teškom djetinjstvu, uspijela je ostvariti svoje
ciljeve i postati jednom od najznačajnijih osoba modnog dizajna 20.stoljeća.
